According to an investigation published by the Ponemon Institute, in 3,269 cyber incidents, 64% were caused by an employee or a negligent contractor. In contrast, the number of data leakage events caused by cyber criminals was only 23%. The institute's research shows that the average cost of internal threats to an organization is more than $8 million per year.
