At Sangfor Technologies 2nd Annual Innovation Summit last weekend in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, over 350+ customers and partners traveled from across the APAC region, UAE and Europe to attend the Summit, headlined by renowned industry experts from INTEL, KPMG, IDC and CyberSecurity Malaysia and unveiling their newest products and innovations.

Cloud was, as ever, a hot topic of discussion at the Innovation Summit, with Sangfor and IDC unveiling their newest collaboration on several whitepapers. One topic up for discussion by speaker Avneesh Saxena from IDC APAC, was what to expect as cloud becomes a major catalyst in transformation between now and 2022 – and the results are fascinating.

Cloud Takes Over

You should expect to see nearly 40% of core IT spending on cloud related transformation by 2022, with that number bloating exponentially to 80% by 2028. Gartner reports that worldwide IT spending is projected to total $3.8 trillion in 2019 – an increase of 3.2% from 2018.

Workloads are Optimized

Non-x86 public cloud computing is predicted to reach 25% by 2022. Jason Perlow, Senior Technology Editor at ZDNet agrees, saying “In industry terms, where major paradigms tend to shift every five or 10 years, the x86 is a true dinosaur.”  That being said, “In the cloud, x86 is still king.”

Complexity Rises

2018 saw 10% of enterprises operating in a multi-cloud environment (10+ service providers), with that number expected to grow to 50% by 2022. To put that into context, Gartner reports that the IaaS public cloud services market grew by 31.3% in 2018 for a total of $32.4B.

Cloud Apps Explode

2022 is predicted to see over 1M apps and services available on the Top 5 SPs’ marketplaces. Writer Ian Blair for BuildFire explains some of the causes of this growth to be simultaneous launch on all platforms, low cost, time saving and safety – among many other benefits.

Waves of Consolidation

Watch for the Top 5 cloud SPs growing to own 85% of mega-platform share with 2 of the top U.S.-based SPs merging datacenter facilities. "Despite strong growth across the board, the cloud market’s consolidation favours the large and dominant providers, with smaller and niche providers losing share,” said Sid Nag, research vice president at Gartner.
