Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia Background

The Malaysian Road Transport Department (RTD), or Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ) is a government agency that handles all transportation matters in Malaysia - providing services to ensure prudent drivers, safe vehicles, and the management of almost 30 million licenses nationwide.

In addition, it is also an organization that provides high-quality services, manages revenue collection, and enforces the transport act transparently and effectively. With more than 160 offices nationwide, the primary function of the JPJ department is to examine and issue driving licenses, road taxes, vehicle registrations, and other relevant documents for its users.

All these obligations need to be structured and organized through an extensive and advanced IT system that ensures data security and efficiency.

Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan's Challenges

JPJ handles sensitive user information on a daily basis and therefore required a new and advanced security solution to further enhance the safety of their network. The previous UTM security solution that JPJ used lacked IPS and APT capabilities – among other critical modern security features. The department required a better cybersecurity solution that could analyze, isolate, and eliminate threats while also providing full-time protection for the company’s network.

In addition, the department also needed tools to provide Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) – for the prevention of any data loss as well as the need for more advanced reporting tools for better visibility of their network infrastructure and to improve the overall detection of threats.

Lastly, the ability to detect proxy usage posed as an issue for the Malaysian transport department. This meant that users could navigate websites and browse through pages using proxy applications – which concealed their user data and prevented the company from monitoring network traffic and optimizing services. Moreover, anonymous proxy and VPN apps make employee devices invisible to IT administrators and allow them to bypass the various defenses set up to protect the network – making the system vulnerable to cyberattacks and unnecessary bandwidth usage.

Sangfor’s Solution for Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan

  • Sangfor firstly proposed the installation of the Next Generation Firewall (NGAF) to enhance the security level of the entire network - with the advanced firewall technology deployed in bridge mode in order to avoid the possibility of downtime. The Next Generation Firewall included a crucial hardware bypass feature which mitigated any impact on the network.
  • The most prudent security features were enabled – including the IPS, APT, risk assessment, real-time vulnerability scanner and content security. Sangfor’s integrated reporting tools also provided JPJ with a complete view of their network’s status and made the report to the management much easier.
  • Sangfor also provided advanced security measures against malware and virus threats for JPJ by utilizing the successful Sangfor Cyber Command Platform to ensure integrated network and endpoint security solutions that could respond to threats automatically. The simplified Cyber Command solution uses AI technology to provide overall security detection and response capabilities by monitoring internal network traffic and eliminating threats to the system before they can do any damage.
  • Sangfor understands the risks of using Anonymous Proxy and VPN Services and was able to combat the issue of proxy detection for JPJ. Sangfor’s Application Containment Solution is used to correlate the behavior of endpoints, containers, and workloads with network behavior to give administrators complete visibility of application activity. Proxy Avoidance Protection is a subset of Application Containment and includes a library of well-known anti-proxy applications, anonymous browsers, and VPNs to create granular blocking and monitoring policies enforced by the Endpoint Secure Protect Agent.
  • Lastly, Sangfor ensured that critical Proof-of-Concept (POC) was carried through – this is a trial run intended to show that a product can be successfully deployed in the real world and plays a critical role in developing successful IT solutions. This process helped Sangfor detect and mitigate any operational faults in the system for JPJ. Running the POC for all of Sangfor’s products within the JPJ system allowed them to root out any anomalies and provide a tailored cybersecurity solution for the department.

Customer Benefits After Deployment of Sangfor Solution

The JPJ was highly satisfied with Sangfor’s efficiency and the level of support at all times – the Sangfor team being consistently ready to troubleshoot any issues that arose and provide excellent solutions and services.

JPJ is entrusted to regulate the registration and licensing of motor vehicles systematically and innovatively - this can now be done without cybersecurity and IT efficiency issues plaguing the department all due to Sangfor’s holistic and advanced services and products.

With such incredible service provided, JPJ feels comfortable in assigning their IT infrastructure needs to Sangfor and their array of enhanced cybersecurity and cloud computing options. Visit www.sangfor.com to find out more. Watch the video to learn more.
