Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) refers to the technology that delivers a virtual desktop image over a network to an endpoint, usually a PC or mobile device. The virtual operating systems is run and managed in a data center but functions as if it was running locally.
- Increased Security: Because all data lives in the data center, there is no data to be compromised on the endpoint.
- Device Flexibility: Because little actual computing takes place at the endpoint, the lifespan of PCs can be extended or less powerful PCs can be purchased at lower costs.
- Scalability: You can access the centralized computing system, that means, you can access all those applications that probably not able to run on your system, or you need additional hardware to run. Thus, you can have a pool of new applications, without upgrading your own system.
- Mobility: Since it is a centralized connection, you can stay mobile, while keeping all your work stored securely. It is very useful while doing WFH during COVID-19 period.
